Physical description:Opal is a hydrate of Silica with a soft amorphous structure. All Opals have a unique appearance. Precious Opals contain a vast array of rainbow hues whilst common opals have colours that burst forth from their milky surfaces. Fire opals display warm fiery colors whilst Peruvian blue opals show off a stunning bluish green.
Symbolic description: Opals juxtapose the expressiveness and spontaneity of emotions alongside the peacefulness and tranquility of the mind.
Origin: Australia is a great source for a variety of opals including white opals, crystal opals, boulder opals and black opals. Other locations around the world where opals can be found are Mexico and Peru, as well as other areas in South America and Europe. NASA has even announced that Opal deposits have been discovered on Mars.
