Named after a French gemologist, Dr. Laurent Massi, for this optical phenomenon ( you won't find this in any text books), the "Lolo" effect is still very much an undiscussed topic in the gemological world. It's a best kept secret but believe me that in a few years, this term will become very famous. The optical appearance I am referring to is the "diesel" effect found in sapphires. It is not simply the "gaseous" yellow and slightly milky look but a blend with blue combined with yellow and some milk. It's beautiful! This appearance is the same as the "milkiness" seen in Kashmir sapphires. |
