At one time, painite was one of the rarest stones on earth. Only one piece was available in the London Geological Museum. About five years ago, a deposit of painite was discovered and a large quantity was excavated. Now it is again depleted and the nice ones are indeed rare again. This particular piece weighs 7.32 carats and is a fairly good crystal quality. It is black in color and takes a good polish. I personally have only seen a few pieces in this size and I doubt there are many out there of this quality and size. This piece is well cut in a cushion shape and good proportions. For the collector, this piece is a commendable one!
