Marcasite was first introduced to the worldwide jewelry market more than five years ago. Since its introduction, the silver jewelry industry has incorporate it into their designs and sales have soared with the biggest consumer markets in the US and Japan.
Swarogem (Thailand) Ltd. Has been a world leader in supplying marcasite to silver jewelry manufacturers. Its precisely calibrated machine cut marcasite is preferable to hand cut in terms of quality, consistency and supply.
Currently, round rose marcasite is the only shape available in the market, but Swarogem has foreseen the possibility of extending the use of marcasite to enhance silver jewelry manufacturing by introducing square marcasite.
The square cut, which is available in sizes ranging from 0.90 mm to 2.00 mm, was first introduced to a small group of major silver manufacturers last September. Swarogem hoped to gage the reaction of the manufacturers in order to anticipate how square marcasite might be accepted by consumers. Thailand is being used as the test market for the new square marcasite since marcasite is already so popular here with silver jewelry manufacturers.
It the progress made by Best Luck Jewelry Manufacturer Co., Ltd. Is any indication, then square marcasite has great design possibilities, Best Luck, a leader in silver marcasite jewelry manufacturing, has already come up with a complete range of silver jewelry using the Swarogem Square, Altogether they have over two hundred designs of rings, bracelets, pendants and earrings which they are introducing to the market at the Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair (March 14-17). Currently, Best Luck is the only company marketing the Swarogem Square, however, it is expected that Swarogem will offer it to other silver jewelry manufacturers in the future.
A unique feature of this new line of jewelry is that best Luck has developed an “invisible look” setting for the square marcasite. The markets targeted for it are in the US, mainly in chain stores and on television home shopping; and in Japan.
Both Swarogem and Best Luck are waiting to see the reaction of the public to the square marcasite after the Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair. It is expected that the current market will be receptive to this new shape and if so, next year Swarogem plans to introduce other shapes, such as triangle and baguette.
