Sometime in May or June of next year, Thai jewelry manufacturers will have an opportunity to forge closer contacts with some 30 Israeli diamantaires-exporters, says Charlie Hollander of HR Diamonds Ltd. of Israel. And together they grow.
“In a certain way, Bangkok is a center for jewelry manufacturing,” Hollander said in an interview here. “We believe it’s important to have better understanding of our mutual needs.”
Described as a “first step,” the Israeli-initiated conference in Bangkok next year is designed to encourage the exchange of ideas between the two groups. “I believe the Thais have interest, as we do. The industry is becoming larger and manufacturers here need reliable, steady supplies,” Hollander said. “By improving our relationship, each of us can grow bigger and better.”
Partner Robert Rosenthal said the combination of Thailand’s qualified labor and Israel’s knowledge and experience can work. “Together, the jewelry and diamond industry can be on top of other countries.”
Hollander, who also is president of Israel’s Diamond Institute’s Diamond Export Promotion, said there is little collaboration among Israeli manufacturers and diamond producers but hoped the Thais will turn up at the Bangkok-held event.
“We are giving them the opportunity to meet and to look for their own partners. I hope there is going to be an exchange of ideas and discussion of problems between the associations. I believe if we understand the diamond people, then we will understand some problems,” Hollander said.
